ROLES (Playing ages stated)

JOSEPH Male 25 -35

Eleventh son of Jacob and Jacob’s favourite. Joseph begins as a cocky teenager who, through dealing with life’s adversities, becomes a humble man and a true leader. Accomplished actor/singer with ’Magnetic star quality’.

NARRATOR Female 25 – 45

The Narrator through word and song guides the audience gently through the story of Joseph and his brothers. We are looking for an accomplished actress, singer and dancer who can completely invest in the storytelling aspect.

PHAROAH Male 35 – 45

Pharaoh is the most powerful man in Egypt, and considered a god on earth. Should be an outgoing, engaging entertainer, able to take the stage and connect with an audience. He sings an Elvis-style song, “Song of the King,” and is very comfortable having adoring fans. May also play Levi.

POTIPHAR Male 50 -70

Potiphar is a rich, self-indulgent and sophisticated Egyptian capitalist who buys Joseph as a slave. He needs to be a strong actor as well as a good singer. May double as Jacob.

POTIPHAR’S WIFE Female 25 – 35

Mrs. Potiphar is an indulgent woman who likes to get her own way, and thinks first and foremost about her own personal gratification. She is razor sharp, beautiful and confident, who is comfortable moving in a seductive manner.

JACOB Male 50 – 75

Jacob is the father of Joseph and his 11 brothers. He clearly favours Joseph as the first son of his favourite wife, unwittingly causing the friction that exists between Joseph and his brothers. At times he may appear unfair and shallow, but he is, more importantly, the prophet who recognizes the future and the calling of Joseph, thus saving the House of Israel. Jacob needs to be a good actor, who can sing. Can double as Potiphar.

11 brothers (Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin), are jealous of Joseph being their father’s favourite son, sell him into slavery, and ultimately realize their wrongdoing. Actors/Singers and dancers required.

Butler and Baker 25 -45

The Butler and the Baker both work for the Pharaoh. They are both decent men in precarious situations. They need to be good singers and honest actors. Can double as brothers.

Wives of brothers – ensemble Females 16 plus

Of varying age. Must sing well, dance and be proficient with harmony. Featured roles and solos will come from the ensemble.

Children’s Chorus (Dream Choir) x 12 Boys and Girls

8 years upwards. Unbroken voices for boys. Must be confident actors, singers and dancers and have the ability to focus and concentrate as they appear on stage for the majority of the show. Each child will be required to sing individually at the auditions.
